English Wine

on June 9, 2011

Timing! Co-incidentally, the day of my previous Food and Wine post, Dan (our brilliant production/sales team member) had arranged a Food and Wine matching event at the Beach House in Shoreham. Great minds, as they say!

Dan and Alex (our wine-maker), and a restaurant full of customers interested in local foods and wines, were treated to a gourmet menu which included:
English Asparagus, served with Quails’ eggs, butter dressing and shaved Sussex Mayfield, and a glass of our Brut, described as “Fruity, aromatic and wonderfully refreshing with an enticingly dry finish“.
The main course was a Poached Chicken Bomb filled with Shoreham brown crab and prawns, which sounds mouthwateringly delicious.
For dessert there was a Warm Bakewell Tart with Raspberry Ripple Ice Cream, served with a glass of our RoséBrimming with red summer fruits and has a rich, balanced redcurrant finish.”
To round off the whole eveing (and it’s clientele!), they finished with a selection of Sussex cheeses.

It’s so heartening to find restaurants that don’t just say they like to buy local produce, but take the time and trouble to go the extra mile, and actually craft menus around the wonderful array of produce that we have here in Sussex.

If that has got your mouth watering, and you are interested in having a taste for yourself, 24 St Georges in Brighton is hosting its own gourmet evening matching local food with our wines on Thursday 14th July from 7pm. If you are interested, details are on their website, “Events”, or please contact them on 01273 626060.

We hope to see you there! And if you go, do feel free to post comments on our site to let us know what you thought, or share any other great local food and wine matching discoveries you’ve made.

It’s hungry work, all this blogging! I wonder what’s for lunch…?
