Sunshine?!! Something’s gone very wrong with this harvest. Normally the day the fabulous fourteen or so hardy souls gather to start picking our grapes, the clouds open and the autumn rains begin. Maybe it’s the false starts that have caused confusion. We picked a couple of varieties first, then made the most of the fabulous late summer sunshine, before beginning again in earnest last week.
The first of the Bacchus that we planted in 2009 is looking good; it’s only a small crop this year as it usually takes 5 years to get to commercial cropping levels. However, we may be launching a single varietal label for this most delicious crisp, quintessentially English grape in the Spring – definitely worth watching this space (or signing up to our newsletter (click here) so that you can be the first to know; if we do, there’ll only be about 1,000 bottles, so you’ll have to be quick off the mark to get some!)
Plan B is that it will blend beautifully with the Wurzer and Ortega to make a stunning 2011 vintage of the Alexis.
Any of you who are Groupon fans may have noticed a great bargain for our wine tour and tasting vouchers, recently. We sold an amazing 280 in 48 hours, so we look forward to welcoming many more visitors to our beautiful vineyard in the coming months. Inspired by this we have launched a limited run of a new £10 special wine tour and tasting (click here for more details of this and our other gift vouchers).
