The People

We have 15 full and part timers working at the vineyard in production, the office and the shop.

The Office

All of us are passionate and enthusiastic about English wines in general and, more specifically, the wines we make here. Whether it’s your first time visiting us, or you’re a returning customer, you will find our friendly and knowledgeable staff looking forward to serving you.

Our office is staffed during weekdays by Mark Swift, who is always happy to answer any of your queries and provide any information you may require. If he can’t help you, he’ll find someone who can!

Linda and David Carr Taylor, the owners and founders of Carr Taylor, also work in the office and are always on hand and happy to help with any queries.

Shop Staff & Tour Guides

We are incredibly fortunate to have a wonderful team of friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable tour guides, some of whom have been with us in our shop and guiding groups around our vineyard and winery for many years. Among them are:

Dave Harrison – Dave was employed at Gatwick airport for many years and travelled the world teaching people how to trace missing baggage. As well as entertaining our visitors, he lectures on the history of Gatwick and on vines & wines to very diverse groups of the public. He has been a tour guide at Carr Taylor since 2004. He is also extensively known in Sussex, Surrey and Kent as a medium and clairvoyant. He retired to Hastings in 1999 to be close to his children and grandchildren. His ambition is to outlive them all and to continue being active until at least his 100th birthday!

Sue Crisford – Sue has worked at the vineyard since 1996. She lives in Battle and has 4 children aged between 14 and 21. She enjoys reading, travelling, eating and, of course, drinking!

Carol Wately – Carol has lived in East Sussex since 2000. She lives a ‘country living’ existence with a menagerie of 2 cats, 3 ducks, 10 ducklings, 20 chickens, 2 bee hives and 3 children. Luckily, her neighbours still talk to her! Her favourite way to relax is with a glass of bubbly in the garden. She has been gardening organically since 1994 and is now in the process of converting her garden to biodynamic sowing and planting methods.

The Production Team

Our dedicated and talented production team is headed by Alex, the Founders’ son. His perfectionism and life-long experience in the industry drives the ever-increasing quality of our wines. He oversees everything that goes on in the vineyard and winery, from the pruning of the grapes, to the viticultural decisions that maximise the quality and quantity of the crop, and finally the pickers and processing of the grapes as soon as they come in. All the processing of the grapes and the blending, bottling and labelling of the wine is done by Alex and the production team.

The production team inspire us with their hard-work and unfailing enthusiasm, even on the dullest of rainy, wind-swept days. They have proved time and time again that they are 100% water-proof, immune to the often sub-zero temperates in the winery and on the vineyard, and always willing to help visitors and shop-staff alike.

We are also lucky to have Richard and Wilma, our expert pruners who come back to us year after year to turn the vines from old and redundant to tended and tidy, ready to burst into new shoots and buds within a matter of weeks.
